'Coronation Street' character Les Battersby is set to beg for a job stitching ladies' underwear when he gets the sack as a taxi driver.
Work-shy Les, actor Bruce Jones, gets the axe from Streetcars after the company, run by Steve McDonald, loses its license after a pensioner is killed in a hit-and-run accident involving Steve's girlfriend Ronnie Clayton.
At first, Les is happy to have some free time but is forced to seek work after wife Cilla gives him an ultimatum: "No job - no nookie!"
The layabout former cabbie immediately goes to see daughter Leanne, who is dating Underworld boss Dannie Baldwin, and works at the factory, and pleads with her to let him work as a seamstress.
He tells her: "I'll do anything - I'll even stitch knickers if that's all you've got."
Despite his pleas, Leanne tells her dad there is no work for him - meaning he is chucked out of the marital bed he shares with Cilla.
Les eventually finds employment delivering leaflets, but he soon loses that job after being caught dumping the flyers rather than posting them.
A show insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "He's desperate and he doesn't know when he's going to be ale to snuggle up with Cilla again. There might even be a few fans who start to feel sorry for Les."
