34-year-old Ryan Cross was struck by a lightning bold while riding his bike during a camping trip with friends near Idaho City. He survived the incident as the lightning bolt entered his head and exited out his back.
Cross was immediately taken to a hospital and was treated for bleeding in his brain. Meanwhile, his wife Heather confirmed that Ryan is now alert, eating, and even walking.
She told 7 KTVB.com: "They were riding, and it started raining and then all of a sudden it started hailing pretty heavily so they stopped.
"Ryan got off his four-wheeler went under a tree to protect himself from the hail, leaned up against a tree, was looking at a map on his phone, and that is when it all happened."
On hearing the news her husband was in hospital, Mrs Cross said: "I really just tried to stay strong. The drive from Nampa to here (Boise) was the longest drive of my life. I didn't know what I was going to walk into."
Kate Thomas, 49, said: "Most mothers I know don't work full time and if they are lucky they will have a job that covers their childcare and have a bit extra.”
"But if that bit extra then ends up being what funds the extra cost of the nursery, what is the point of working?"
