Two years since Michael Jackson died the ongoing battle between the promoter and insurer of the concert is far from over, with new information from leaked emails coming to light.
In several emails sent by the promoters it was clear they were having deep concern over Jackson’s health and stability, as reported by the BBC.One email obtained by Los Angeles Times said the singer was "an emotionally paralysed mess".
Lloyds of London, the show’s insurer, is claiming the promoters weren’t upfront and even made false claims when asked about Michael’s health and readiness to perform.
Because of this, they’re seeking to nullify the $17.5 million insurance policy.
As quoted by the BBC, AEG's Randy Phillips told company president Tim Leiweke: "[Jackson] is locked in his room drunk and despondent."
During one occasion where Jackson was scheduled to attend a press conference, the promoter needed to sober him up to ensure that he’ll show up. He reportedly did but was late and stayed briefly.
These emails are expected to be used by the shows insurers in their attempt to nullify the insurance policy.
On another front, it is understood the family of the late singer are accusing Anschutz Entertainment Group for ignoring all the signs that Michael was too weak to do series of concerts.
Michael died on January 25, 2009, due to propofol overdose. His physician Condrad Murray, who was with him that day, was convicted of involuntary man slaughter and is serving four years in jail.
